Mike Hilferty receives Certified Property Manager of the Year Award (12/09)

Mike Hilferty, CPM/RPA, our Director of Property Management, was recently awarded the Certified Property Manager of the Year award by Louisiana Chapter 55 of the Institute of Property Management – IREM. Mike received the CPM designation in 1991 and became actively engaged in the chapter in 2005, when he chaired the Legislative and Public Relations Committees. In the legislative roll in 2005, Mike set up appointments with the state’s nine member congressional delegation and lead other members from the chapter on a lobbying trip to Washington, D.C. that year, and two years after.
In 2006, he was elected Secretary/Treasurer, expecting to become president-elect in 2007, but a personal matter prevented the original president-elect from fulfilling her duties, so Mike became the chapter Secretary, Treasurer and President-Elect all in the same year. In 2007 he filled the roll as chapter president. Mike quickly worked to reestablish the chapter leadership and membership, both of which were decimated by Hurricane Katrina. He worked tirelessly with the Programs Committee to host numerous outstanding luncheons, with attendance typically averaging 50 members per event, and one peaking at 70. He laid the groundwork for the hire of the chapter’s first administrative assistant, who began the following year, and for the chapter’s website, which is now regularly visited by members and newcomers alike. Mike also pushed members to submit Income/Expense forms to a national database, resulting in data for New Orleans, Metairie and Baton Rouge to be published in the national Income/Expense Analysis for Office Buildings – 2007. He traveled with the officer corps regularly in 2005, 2006 and 2007, attending regional and national meetings, and in 2007, the Louisiana chapter hosted the regional meeting, which was deemed a smashing success.
Since his presidency, he continues to attend board meetings and serve as a mentor for the upcoming officers. After his presidency, he was asked by the national organization to become a Regional Vice President, but Mike declined, wanting to continue his focus on strengthening Louisiana’s chapter. He still chairs the Website Committee and assists with the Golf Committee, which is the major fundraising arm of the chapter. In accepting the CPM of the Year award, he told attendees he was proud of the work they’ve accomplished, and that it was his pleasure to serve as their president.
